Health and Safety Executive (HSE) statistics state that 90% of workplace accidents are avoidable and 70% are through miss management which is why GMB Northern provides extensive training for GMB Safety Representatives which now number over 1500 in the region. The GMB Rep is at the forefront of health and safety matter in the workplace and ensures that in recognised workplaces they carry out their activities under the afety REpresentative and Safety Committes Regulations 1977 and in non recognised workplaces they actively encourage growth in membership on health and safety issues to gain recognition. Statistics also tell us that workplaces that have union recognition are a safer environment to work in.
If you are not a GMB member and would like to make your workplace safer why not join us today and consider becoming a safety rep.
